Corrections
How FISRO corrects mistakes, and how to tell us about one.
Our commitment
We will sometimes get things wrong. When we do, we correct the record promptly, say what changed, and leave a visible note on the page. We do not delete or silently rewrite published work.
How to report an error
Use the contact form and choose “Correction request”. Tell us the page address, the passage concerned and, if you can, the evidence for the correct version. You do not need to give your name, but an email address helps if we need to ask a question.
What happens next
An editor who was not involved in the original piece reviews the request against the sources. If the piece is wrong, we fix it and add an entry to its “Updates and corrections” section stating:
- the date and time (UTC) of the change;
- what was wrong and what it now says;
- whether the error affected the piece’s conclusions.
We distinguish three kinds of entry:
| Kind | Used when |
|---|---|
| Correction | A fact was wrong. |
| Clarification | The facts were right but the wording could mislead. |
| Update | New information has emerged since publication. |
If an error is serious enough to undermine a piece, we say so at the top of the page and mark the piece “Correction issued”.
Dates
A correction or substantive update changes the “Updated” date shown on the piece. It never changes the original publication date.
